Reports to: Senior EducationUSA Adviser and Fulbright Director

Opening Date:  July 2, 2012

Closing Date:    July 9, 2012

Work Hours:     Monday to Friday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday: 9:30 to 12:30

Salary:  $800 U.S. (per month)

Length of Hire: To be determined


Actively promote U.S. higher education throughout Uruguay by offering accurate, comprehensive, objective and timely information about educational opportunities in the U.S. and guidance to qualified individuals on how best to access those opportunities. Carry out daily management, marketing and promotion of activities at the advising center to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to the public.  Seek out and develop innovative tools to promote U.S. higher education and reach out to non-traditional audiences.  Liaise with U.S. institutions of higher education to facilitate recruitment and admission of Uruguayan students and increase student mobility.




  1.  Assists with activities of marketing, promotion and management of Exam Preparation Center within the EducationUSA Advising Center.
  2. Carries out full range of educational advising activities, including group and individual advising, online advising, outreach, workshops, public speaking, special events, and annual pre-departure program.
  3. Maintains organization of advising reference library, keeps reference materials up-to-date both in the library and online, prepares presentation materials and informative documents, and keeps current the advising section of host institution website/facebook/twitter.
  4. Promotes U.S. higher education and EducationUSA services throughout Montevideo and the surrounding areas in Uruguay.
  5. Liaises with U.S. institutions of higher education to facilitate recruitment and admission of students and increase student mobility.
  6. Liaises with local partner organizations.
  7. Develops and implements income-generating activities to support educational advising program development.
  8. Maintains standards established by ECA/A/S/A for certification of educational advising centers and in accordance with ECA compliance regulations for annual educational advising grant.




  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required. Candidates with experience in both the U.S. and the Uruguayan educational systems will be preferred.
  • Certified Teachers of English, or with the equivalent experience in teaching of English, will be preferred.
  • Willing to travel to participate in professional development activities.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English and Spanish.  Strong communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to describe and compare U.S. and local educational systems.
  • Knowledge of internet and social media.
  • Must be able to obtain information in an interview, analyze prospective students’ requirements and enable the student to determine how best to satisfy these requirements.
  • Research and public speaking skills are essential.
